Fearing the worst, the geologist Dr Amy Barnes warns the citizens of downtown Los Angeles of an impending disaster after a tremendous earthquake takes them by surprise. With clear signs of an underground volcanic formation beneath the La Brea Tar Pits, the chief of the city's Office of Emergency Management department, Mike Roark, begins an investigation against the clock, when molten magma erupts, obliterating everything in its path. Can two mere mortals stand up against nature's wrath? In the city of Los Angeles, it is nice quiet and routine. Until an earthquake occurred. The director of the city's emergency management, Michael Roark believes that something big is about to happen, so he finds a geologist named Amy Barnes to help him investigate. What they will realize that the earthquake is a sign of a volcano forming in the city. The volcano formed at the La Brea Tarpits. Now Roark has to use every resource in the city to stop the volcano from consuming Los Angeles. An officer of the rescue organization (Jones) and geologist Dr. Amy Barnes (Heche) teams up trying to combat a roaring volcano in Los Angeles……<br/><br/>The ingredients were there (Volcano, Jones and Heche) for a great movie, The first 30-40 minutes are pretty okay but after 40 minutes the movie turn so bad it could make you laugh or cry….<br/><br/>The characters were paper-thin. The plot was chock full of holes. Poorly written and embarrassing moral moments pulls together. Underground rivers of lava that seem to appear & then disappear just as quick. Various people standing inches from a river of lava yet not being affected by the heat. One simple blockade at the end of a street will stop the flowing lava. And it goes on and on…. The cast go through the motions with some terrible dialogue & ridiculous set-pieces to contend with. <br/><br/>Jones and Heche did very well with what they have been giving, unfortunately they we're giving crap. Jones and Heche deserves better than this.<br/><br/>The script here is total nonsense and is not based in reality at all. But the movie does entertain.<br/><br/>Volcano is a bit of a disaster in both senses, it is a disaster themed film that ended up in an entertaining disaster of itself. Stop you're brain working and you will enjoy this…. Volcano <br/><br/>The reason there are no volcanoes in LA is because there're instantly laced, cauterized and concealed with silicon.<br/><br/>On occasion, however, like in this disaster movie, one festers under the surface.<br/><br/>Emergency Management head Mike Roark (Tommy Lee Jones) and his colleague Emit (Don Cheadle) shrug off a L.A. area earthquake when no major damage appears to be present.<br/><br/>Overtime, however, hot gasses begin emitting from fissures in the ground, killing city workers.<br/><br/>A geologist (Anne Heche) declares a volcano to be forming underneath the city streets, but Roark refuses to believe her. <br/><br/>That mistake costs him Wilshire Boulevard. And if he keeps it up, it'll cost him his daughter (Gaby Hoffmann).<br/><br/>The more unrealistic of the two volcano movies released in 1997, this special effects heavy one basks in the insanity of its ludicrous plot and blatant disregard for human lives.<br/><br/>Fortunately, lava flows only go after bad people.<br/><br/>Red Light<br/><br/>vidiotreviews.blogspot.ca Unfortunately, Volcano is also faithful to Hollywood's legendary lack of originality.
